I am an author of historical fantasy. A question I often answer is "Why that genre?" and it's corollary, "Is that even a genre?" My answer to both questions lies in the roots of why I write.

I have always been a voracious reader. Even as a child, I would do chores to earn money to spend on books. It did not take long for me to start hashing out a few stories of my own.

I read all genres, from horror to romance, mystery to fantasy, and everything in-between. So when it came time to listen to the insistent voice in my head to write a novel, I wrote a book with all the elements of the genres I love. There are horrible things and mysterious people. There are thrilling action scenes and lost love. There is the heartache of being abandoned and the fear of discovery by your enemies. It has everything I love about all the stories I read.

So when it came time to slap a tag on what, exactly, I write, my answer is I write what moves me as a reader to keep turning the pages. The label is historical fantasy. My first book, Prodigal Spell, is available now, and I am hard at work on other historical fantasies.

I do have a life outside of writing. I have been known to knit a hat, work a day job, and run a few marathons. Each activity allows me time to think of new plot twists and character motivations, so forgive my time spent on them. I may even comment in my blog about these other things, but only in the context of making my writing better. I hope you enjoy your visit to my site. I look forward to meeting all of you.
